I have a 1972 Starcraft super sport v outboard. I can hear the bilge pump run but it does not pump. I had never tried it before other than to hear it run. I thought I would try taking it out to make sure nnothing is plugged. Does anyone know how this is mounted. I can feel it but not see it. I may stick the digital camera in there to see if that shows me anything. Any suggestions on how to remove or why it may not be pumping?

When you are running the pump is there water in the bilge to pump out?

Normally they are attached below the deck, hard to say how yours would be attached but they can be removed usually.

yes there is water in the bilge but it is not pumping it out. I plan to also check to make sure the tubing is not plugged

I agree, if you can hear the pump then it's not a bad fuse or wiring issue.

If you are doing a restoration on the boat you can pull the deck up and take a look. Maybe the hose is not attached to the pump.

By the way...welcome to the site, lots of Starcraft fans hang out here.:)

Re: bilge pump removal

Thanks for the welcome. I am not doing a restoration. The boat is in reasonably good shape. It has always been stored in a garage & I am the 2nd owner. It sat in a garage for 5yrs before I got it & I only used it 2-3 times in 8 yrs, otherwise in my garage. Now I live by a lake so I am finally getting out. We have a marina & I have a slip there. Will take it out over the weekend to clean & check out the pump.
I haven't looked yet but are there good places to get Starcraft parts. I just noticed that the rubber boot that goes over the streering arm is torn.

Schill, I don't know about youre bilge pump but most of the ones I have seen have a mounting base to them. Try to turn (unscrew) the main body and see if it will come out. Some of them snap in. You can also try pouring water IN the OUTLET tube, see if any water comes out into the bottom of the boat. That may show a loose or torn hose.

Thanks for the help. I will try all that tomorrow when I get on dry land.

And some have clips that you push inward on both sides to remove.
