Bilge pump stays on

Do some bilge pumps have an internal switch? I have a yellow, 1500 gph bilge pump with a 1" dischargeon a 29' chriscraft that stays on. I have to pull the console 15A fuse to turn it off. The float switch appears to be ok. I back flushed the pump in order to clear any debris, but it will not shut off. I suppose it could also be the console switch itself? Any recommendations on testing procedures to further troubleshoot this pump?

Either a bad switch on the dash or the internal float switch in the pump is bad.
Unhook the wires from the switch and see if it turns off.
Some are wired with a secondary hot wire to the battery so it turns on automatically if the float switch in the pump detects water.
Some of the dash switches are on-off-auto...3 position switch. Some are only on-off.

Besides checking those items, are you positive that it's wired correctly? It's possible that the hot wire is going directly to the pump instead of the float switch. Of course if it used to work properly and then recently started acting up this won't be the problem, just throwing out another idea.
