I Have A 89 Glastron With A 135 Black Max. Last Season The Bilge Pump Started Working. This Year I Was Going To Replace The Pump, But Before I Did I Checked It With A Test Light And There Was No Electricity To It So I Ordered The Factory Switch For It. I Put The New Switch On It And The Pump Still Dont Work But There Is Worse Problems. Now The Bilge Pump Switch Has To Be In The On Position For The Ignition And Or The Tilt And Trim To Work. Doesnt Make Sence, I Didnt Touch Any Other Wires. There Are Four Wires That Go To The Switch. An Orange One That Comes From The Breaker, A Brown One That Goes To The Bilge Pump, And Two Other Ones That Have A Total Of Three Wires Each On The Plug. There Is Only One Combonation That Will Let The Ignition And Tilt And Trim Work. When I Flip The Switch It Powers That And The Gas Gauge Too. As Far As I Can Tell The Only Wiring That Has Ever Beed Done Is The Depth Finder And I Did That. Im No Electronical Genious But No Moron Either. A Wiring Schematic Sure Would Help.

Re: Bilge Pump Switch

you`d better check to see if you did infact have the pump wiring.
bilge pumps have only 2 wires hot & ground, the switch only has 2 wires.
a hot leg to one side of the switch, other leg from switch to + pump lead(usually brown), black from pump to a good ground. should have nothing to do with any other accessories

Re: Bilge Pump Switch

schematic not available. the engine and ignition wiring should be totally separate from any other wiring. power from battery goes to motor, motor to engine controls. nothing else should be on this wiring. should have separate, connection at battery for everything else, that goes to a fuse panel. then switches.

You Are Absolutley Right They Should Be Seperatly Wired. The Only Thing That I Can Think Of Is When The Pump Went Out Maybe Some Wires Melted Together, But I Cant Find Them.

Re: Bilge Pump Switch

Yes Its The Pump Switch, Rocker Switch. On This Panel There Is The Horn, Below It The Bilge Pump Switch, Below That Is The Intreior Light Switch And Beside Each Of Them Is A Breaker. All The Switches Have Hot And Grounds Running From One To Another. I Forgot To Mention The Switch Has A Light On It. Until I Took The Old Switch Off, Everything Worked Just Like It Should. I Put The New Switch On And Now It Has To Be In The On Position For The Ignition And Tilt And Trim To Work. The Horn, Lights And Radio Work Just Like They Should.

The post right above this one contains a link to a Generic Boat (instrument panel) wiring diagram. It should help you find the problem.
