Bilge pump wiring

I need some info. I need to wire a pump and switch. The switch at the helm has 3 prongs on it. The pump is wired some what and both wires are hot. The wires on the switch are hot. I need to replace. Trying to get it the way its suposed to be. The switch is melted and the pump i have no idea yet. Any sugestions. Thanks

a circuit tester is required as wiring needs to be proved first.if melted needs replacing too.

Start with this.



If your switch has 3 connections it could be ....
A Single Pole Double Throw Switch. ON/OFF/ON (Auto)

Or, A Single Pole Illuminated Switch. ON/OFF
The third Connection Will be the ground for the lamp.
