Hello,
Is it common for a bilge pump to be silent. But when I turn it on I can't tell if it on. No buzzing, humming, or any noise. The previous owner said it worked for him 2 years ago. It's at a location not easily accessilbe. So I can't get a meter on it to see if it is getting voltage or not. Or even test it. Any help would be wonderful.

Thanks,
Tom

Re: Bilge pump

I've never seen or heard of a completely silent one. Better find out now before you need it.

You don't have to actually get to the pump to see if it is drawing current.

You can always put a little water in the hull to see if it actually pumps.

Bilge pumps make noise, a soft whirring sound. ALL pumps make noise when they are operating. Your's isn't...

Not an easily accessable location? Welcome to boats 101...

Tom have a look at your fuse, They may be need to be replaced and most importantly make sure its connected to your battery.

Re: Bilge pump

Put the plug in and tilt the bow up and fill er up and turn the switch on and see what happens. Some need like an inch or so to create the suction and actually pump the water out.
