Bilge Pumps

I am in need of a new bilge pump this year. Had a few instances last year of my pump not kicking on when it should. Granted i did buy a cheap one from amazon. and have gone through a few of those in the past 5 years. My father had one that was yellow and a black top. It lasted 9 years before it died. So would like advice on ones to get. I plan to put a cage around it to keep leaves and other bigger debris out of it.

Sureflow or Rule are the two that I would recommend.

for a cheep one, no less than an Attwood.

you shouldnt need to put a cage around the pump. just keep the bilge clean.

right on, when looking at some of the Rule ones, i cant determine if they are automatic pumps or have to get a float switch, i dont have a ton of room where it sits to have an additional item there

I would go with a 1200 GPH or larger. no sense dealing with anything less.

right on! They are alil pricier, but you get what you pay for in most things boat related! I noticed there looks to be a place to put a screw in to mount the base. I have a metal plate that I could use to mount it to instead of going through the hull as well.

I have used Sahara bilge pumps with great sucess, they come in an all in one package, a screen to keep out debris, built in float switch, etc. Just wire and put in place. Been in my boat for almost 12 years...
