Re: Bill of Sale
You did well. Life is a process of negotiations. What you did was exactly my first thought when I read your post. I'd settle for 1/2 the error and would have asked for a big discount on some accessories that they probably have a 100% mark up on already.
The dealer was probably trying to get back a portion of some salesman's commission where they signed the deal with out realizing that his cost of that boat went up from manufacturer.
Mistakes can happen. Just be glad it was a mistake in your favor this time. When I picked up my new rig, I saw that someone had double posted my original deposit. I picked the rig up and left the dealership with a smile, but then their accounting department eventually discovered it and called me that they needed to correct it. No big deal. People make mistakes!
At least you worked out to a win/win situation for both of you.
But it's always a nice feeling when you enter negotiations with "all" the chips on your side of the table . . . isn't it?
I was desperate when I needed a combo GPS before I was going on vacation to a new lake. Most online sites were out of stock on the unit I wanted and had at least a 2 week back order which can happen at the start of the season. So I had to pay this dealer the list price of $999. Even though he said he'd give me 20% off any accessories since I bought my rig from him. He said he had to get full retail because didn't make any profit when he sells these units. Gotta love these philanthropic dealers. I guess he was selling me this unit at retail (with no profit) because he's just in business to make me happy
The next combo GPS unit I needed for my 2nd boat, I bought online, brand new for near 1/2 the retail price.
Enjoy that new Combo GPS. It's going to look a little sweeter each time you use it now, since it was FREE
