Bing fuel pump spares

posted June 19, 2003 03:06 AM <br />--------------------------------------------------------------------------------<br />HI,<br /><br />I'm hoping someone can help me, my bing fuel pump/filter (off my 5hp Archimedes Penta) is not pumping fuel in, on examination of it the gasket/diaphram has gone hard causing it not to pump (i think), is there any bing pumps that would be ok to use or where can i get a new diaphram/gasket? or could i mod/make one?<br /><br />or is there any electric pumps that could be used!<br /><br />Many Thanks,<br />Graham.

Hi Graham,<br /><br />You're definately out in the oldie's department here. Archimedes / Penta has been out of production for many years so apart from shops that specializes in antique outboards, chances are that some other ol' engine uses the same Bing parts (those days pretty common on motorcycles etc.).<br /><br />An electric device would need a power-producing motor - does the Archimedes charge a battery?<br /><br />Watch the ££'s - a replacement motor may turn out cheaper at the end

Hi,<br /><br /> Thanks for the reply, yes it does have a 12v charging socket, I bought the engine dead cheap and its a super runner, its just the fuel problem that spoiling her!!!<br /><br />i was thinking of maybe a small electric fuel pump? i presume other small outboards with remote tanks must use a similar method to pump the fuel?<br /><br />Graham.

Graham, most outboards use inlet manifold pressure pulses to a diaphragm type fuel pump. I've never seen an electric fuel pump on an outboard, but not to say they don't exist somewhere.

Hi Flyingdragon_uk <br /><br />I have a complete Bing pump lying, if it is the wacum pulse pump type you need - it has 2 hoses and and bolts on somewhere at motors intake side - you can have it for freight cost - send me your e-mail and I will contact you. I can take a picture of it and mail you.
