Black Max 150 - Water under cowling?

Hi all,

I have a 1994 Black Max 150 with extremely low hours (about 20). Motor was recently checked out and serviced. Lately, I've been seeing a lot of water pouring out when I tilt the motor up (about a gallon). I took the cowling off, and ran the motor. On the starboard side, under the wiring block, there is a small machined hole in the side of the engine. About 3mm, way down on the bottom of that side. When running water pours out of this little hole, and puddles below the engine.

Is this normal? I'm getting around 10lbs of water pressure, and there is steady flow from the sight valve on the back of the engine.

That is likely the weep hole for the poppit valve. It sounds like you need to inspect the poppit valve, and replace worn or damaged parts. Repair kits are available at your dealer, ebasicpower.com, likely this site, crowleymarine.com and other places. You can do a google search on the part number.

Thank you very much. I knew someone here could point me in the right direction. My friend who has been running the boat has not been very good about flushing it out after. Could that be the cause of this?

I wouldn't think that not flushing it would cause the weep hole to be active. I suppose some debris could have gummed up the poppit diaghram, maybe that s it.
