I just recently bought a boat with an 87 Black Max 175 on the back and the guy told me that the oil injection system had been removed and he was premixing the oil. When I got home I took off the cowling and it looks like all of the injection system is still on the motor? How do you know if the injection system is all still hooked up properly and working? I have been mixing oil just as a precaution because I don't know if it is oiling properly or not. What should I look for to recognize if it has been disconnected or not? Any help is much Appreciated Thanks

There is an oil tank under the cowling but I don't see one anywhere in the boat?

Here's the procedure for your engine. It's obviously only partly done.

Re: oil injection removal Merc V6 only

You need part number 43453 if it is available. That retains the pump driveshaft bushing and plugs the hole where the pump mounts. Then remove the oil components and the warning module. You'll also need to remove the fitting that the oil tank pressure hose attaches to and plug the hole in the block. (Starboard side, low, near the front)

Order three stickers (37-818029 1), one to mount near the fuel fitting on the motor, one for the dash, and one near the fuel fill fitting on the boat. They'll alert the operator that the gas needs to have oil added. One frequent problem we see here regards the infamous "brother-in-law" that forgets to add oil to the gas and roaches the motor.

You should probably replace the fuel lines where the fitting for the oil T's into the fuel line with a single piece of fuel line.

hope it helps

He has told you the proper way to remove the oil injection, not just half way right. My question is, is there any oil in the engine tank, if not then it is not working and the alarms have been disconnected, so YES do mix 50-1.

Re: Black Max 175 Oil Injection removal?

Draining all the oil out of the oil tank on top the engine is one way to be sure its not getting too much oil.

Dose the boat still have the main oil tank in it?

why not restore the oil mixture system to operation instead of removing it?

I have a 1987 175 black max that runs great on the oil injection system.
