Need to replace seals in lower unit. Mech said may be a waste of time with old shaft as new seals may not work.
Nice laser engraved part numbers fully visible.
Is this a newer replacement shaft on my 1980s

Thanks

Sorry I didn't look up the number but, age and wear can be mutually exclusive with this part..............e.g., The shaft could be perfectly in spec and be from the 80's. Watch these guys!!! Merc's service manual's have particularly listed out details on THE certain inspection points/areas to look at/for and how to test in determining if replacement in necessary as well as certain checks for damage/wobble that he should be going by....You might ask your "mech" to show you where the problem is, he certainly may be right.....

Your mechanic is a bit premature in his assesment.-----Pressure test the gearcase now if you susoect a leak-------Inspect the shafts if there is a leak.

jus really curious 'bout your motor?... only 225 in '80/'81 was a 2.4... they built a 250, 275, 300 3.4 motor startin' in mid 80's....it went away when tha 3.0 came out very early '90's.. will make a difference in your seals/parts....

any pictures of your motor?
