I have a Mercury Black Max 150 serial # 5203765, a 1979 model according to the title. When trying to back it off the trailer the outboard raises up out of the water, instead of pulling the boat off. Would someone please shed some light on if this outboard has a reverse lock mechanism, and if so how it's supposed to function. TIA and Merry Christmas everyone!

Re: Black Max reverse lock

It been years since I fooled with one of these but here goes....It should have the square control box with seperate choke button and trailer button. It has a reverse switch in it that send 12volts to reverse lock solenoid on trim pump. It looks lke a small juice can sideways on bottom of pump and has a pink wire attached to it. Heres where my memory is fuzzy...Take a test light and probe pink wire, turn key to ON and shift into reverse and it should light...

Faztbullet you rock! You were exactly right. That solenoid valve was bad, replaced it, and lake tested today it's fixed. Thanks again.
