Black Max Starting Problems

Engine: 1989 Mercury 150hp Black Max<br /><br />This engine has been used every weekend for the past year or so and I have had no problems with it at all. It always started on the first or second turn of the key when it was cold and ran great afterwards. <br /><br />This past weekend I went to start it up. To cold start this engine I don't use any throttle, I just hold in the choke until the engine starts. I did this and the engine fired on the first turn of the key like it normally does, and then it normally starts on the second turn. This time around it never started on the second turn. The manual suggests I overused the choke, even though this has never happened in the past, it said to wait 5 mins then try to restart it. I waited and tried restarting the engine with no choke or throttle and still had no luck. I ended up going home that day and let it sit in my garage for a couple nights. I pulled it out yesterday and tried to start it in my driveway, still with no luck. <br /><br />What do you guys suggest? I pulled the plugs and wiped them down, and the fuel lines are all cleaned out and in tact. I also still am using the oil injection system. I'm stumped. Any ideas on what to do next?

First, just to check, ensure the kill switch is in place...<br /><br />Second, check the spark on the cylinders while cranking the engine... I recommend using a spark gap tester while doing this...

Checked the spark on all cylinders. All cylinders have a strong spark.

I understand that you have been doing your starting procedure for a time and it has worked for you, but your procedure is wrong.<br /><br />Pump bulb hard, then pump it a couple more times.<br /><br />push the key in and count to ten.<br /><br />lift the throttle about half the way up.<br /><br />Start engine. You may have to hold the key in, but try it without doing so first.<br /><br />If it tries to die, push in the key.

I do this and my motor starts on the first or second crank with a steady idle.
