Black Max

When did Mercury come out with the Black Max model? I have a buddy who may have the model years mixed up,because I can't find any matches for any of the numbers he gave me and I can't find a head gasket for a 1978 Merc 150hp V-6 Black max!

The head gasket is the same thorugh the years...... 27-96281T01 superceded from 27-965421
