My 1983 Johnson 115 has been sitting up for 2 years. Thanks to your help, I now figured out the problem with the trim. I pulled it out and put it on the muffs and ran it a few minutes the other day. Yesterday I noticed that. There was some dark black oil that had ran out onto the prop from running the day before. I am guessing that can't be good. What caused this?? Thanks,SM

probably just some 2 cycle oil from running it. not a problem, that's normal.

Anything else it could be? I didn't think so, but because it has sat up for so long, I was afraid that maybe I cracked my foot or something. I suppose it would be a good idea to check my fluids in the foot now that I am thinking about it. Thanks for the help George! SM

Your gearcase oil should be clear and bright and no more than a little darker, if that, than when it was put in 2 years ago.

Read the item on the Engine FAQs board " Oil leaking around lower unit" at http://forums.iboats.com/forum/engin...nit-by-iwombat

That was a very good read. Thanks Vic. Depending on how lazy I am this afternoon, I may pull the drain plug and see what he lower unit fluid looks like. I don't know that I have ever seen lower unit lube that dark, so I guess it's probably unburned oil. It was just. So. Black and thick that it worried me! Thanks Vic! SM
