Darn....you just spoiled my day... I just installed a 43$ head gasket on a EV 6hp I just refurbished dealer was asking 73$ CDN plus 15% taxes (O.M.G. !)
Amazon was cheaper yet I just found one on EBAY !!! for 15$ free shipping from China & No tarifs :)
Ah ,sorry 'bout that crosbyman 😁and it was a genuine OMC part too.
Its surprising whats out there if you have a look around
Funny how OMC and OMG look similar.
Mind you 43 bucks for a head gasket aint that terrible.
I have bought a few gasket sets from China and are yet to have an issue.🙂

Farr canal jimmbo. ,who cares if it a omc manual ,or if the gasket is omc/brp .....they dont make gaskets, they buy them in from one of the many proprietary gasket makers ....probly not even the same one over the years.
The only thing putting sealant on the gasket will do (apart from sealing ) is make it harder to get off .Im thinking if the book say no sealant then its probly not needed but ......whenever I find myself in this situation , usually rocker covers , that I need to seal well but also come off easily I put sealant ( or gasket cement )on one side of the gasket to stick it to the rocker cover and I put grease on tother side so it comes off easily, stays stuck to the cover and can be re-used many times.
I asked, simply for insight, if a Factory Manual says to put it on Dry, then it should be put on Dry. 3rd Party Manuals can be all over the map on things like that.
As for your Rant...

Many factory gaskets ( and some aftermarket ) have a coating on them.----Experienced mechanics know not to use sealer on these.----Saw a U-tube presenter put a VERY liberal coating of gasket sealer on carburetor gaskets.----Did not realize that he was plugging up the oil recirculation channel on a 9.9 Johnson 2 stroke.----Makes me chuckle.

It’s very easy to determine if a gasket has a coating. For example my head gaskets. They come with a coating. My power head adapter did not so I put a light coating of sealant on it just in case. There are no passages to clog so I’m sure it will be just fine.

Number 4 cylinder is the darker plug and all the other cylinders are the lighter plug. Why is the one cylinder causing the plug to look this way?

Are the sparkplugs looking perfect ?
Plugs are in order as they appear. The left ones are 2 and 4 cylinders and the right ones are 1 and 3 cylinders. I did clean off the 2 and 4 cylinders yesterday. So they might me a little cleaner then 1 and 3 because of that

Sounds ok to me , nice steady idle . Dunno but it sounds like its a bit rattley, more noticeable from the port side ,but it could also just be that the exhaust is unmuffled and messing with your microphone.
Giving it a couple of quick revs would tell us a bit too, just to hear how it responds when you give it a handful, and how it returns to idle. 🙂.
The real test is when you put it under load 😁.
And the plugs look ok.... so far, load her up😆

It revs up nice and is smooth. Returns to idle the same. I plugs are brand new so we may not be able to tell much yet since I’ve only ran them since yesterday
