I am trying to clean up the mess and the mickey mouse stuff in the engine compartment from the previous owners lack of skills or knowledge and the black water hoses are in the way. It occurred to me that using a PVC type pipe would make it so much easier to work around.

Does anybody know the rules/requirements for black water tank lines? Do they have to be hoses or can they be a PVC type pipe with hoses of course, to connect to fittings?

Not sure of the rules, if any, but many boaters have replaced lengths of hose with PVC. IMO, it's important that hose still be used for shock absorption/vibration damping at the fittings, and that the rigid PVC be well supported along its length. I'd add some type of padding to any clamps you use to secure the PVC.
