Hello i need help with my mercury outboard. First off please dont tell me to take it to a mechanic, i have not worked in six weeks may not for a awhile longer.I have a 1997 90hp mercury, my issue is very poor mid range takes for ever to get up on speed and plane. i replaced the stator and trigger, they went bad. I had this problem before that. I tried to sync the carbs but to no avail, do not think its the reed valves not blowing fuel out. If anyone can help i would appreciate.

first, start with the basics

what is the compression on each cylinder.

next, prior to trying to sync the carbs, did you rebuild the carbs?

Ok here is what i have done, i rebuilt all three carbs clean as can be, replaced all of the fuel lines lines from the water/fuel separator to the motor, rebuilt the fuel pump getting good fuel to motor. The compression is 125 all three good spark new wires and plugs.

ok heres the update maybe this can help someone like me. First its still running a little slow in the mid range but is so much better, a little bit more adjusting yet. I went and synced the carburetors through the ignition section ( was not in the fuel section ) of the manual. Made a great improvement, not a perfect hole shot response but gets up on plane a lot faster and has a higher wide open. Well persistence pays off.
