So...I am curious. Are you planning on rebuilding this with a new residual valve and new seals or are you going to slap it together and hope for the best? You planning on honing out the bore of the cylinder or leaving it? My experiences with rebuilding master cylinders by doing what I just described is around 10% and that is why I don't do it anymore.

You seem to understand where I'm coming from! The six gray circles on the piston don't seem to be holes but rather just colored differently; I actually don't understand its function. I just can't find anything clogged here besides the hole left hole in the bottom of the reservoir of the MC, can you?

Also, what do you suggest to thoroughly clean/soak it with to get any dirt out. I'd like to use strong solvents so that everything comes out without a problem.

Well glad to see your still at it. The last pic you showed ...the piston with the black disc and six holes is the part of mine that had bypass holes that were plugged. Maybe the holes are hidden by the black disc. Your MC is different than mine so things are bound to be different.
It's clear to me that you would rather fix this than buy a new part, so clean it up as best as you can.....get rid of all the rust, and flush everything very well to get rid of all the contamination, reassemble all the parts, and then bench bleed the thing ( to get rid of all the air, and to ensure smooth operation) before installation.
Your going to have to flush the brake lines and get all the old brake fluid out (if you haven't already), and make sure you pop the dust caps off the wheel cylinders to check for rust and ensure smooth operation of the piston (depress with a finger,screwdriver or whatever.) If you can't move the wheel cylinders, they need to be either replaced (they're really cheap), or worked on as well.

If this unit is unrepairable, then I'll definitely get another one but I only want to do this if I absolutely have to. Why throw out a good part that can still be used?

I'll most likely get new complete assemblies for the wheels. Its just that here in Canada the prices are terrible compared to the U.S. I would have already bought a complete Titan assembly from Eastern Marine (GALPHORITE material supposed to be better than galvanized) at $39.99 but the $50+ shipping defeats the purpose. It pisses me off how they double-price things up here in Canada...

I have been down the road you are on many times. I know it costs some money to ship but in the end it is worth it. You can replace all the parts and know you have someting that is going to work for awhile. If you put this back together, you are going to be back on here in a year telling us how your brakes stopped working and something bad happened.

You should see what champion trailers want sto ship it. They are further away than eastern but who knows.

Stocker, be sure to read my previous message below. I have added two more pics and I think I found the bypass holes you were referring to - they don't seem to be clogged. Again, let me know what you think...

Yes, those are the ones i've been talking about. Now I'm not 100% positive on this, but those holes must let brake fluid bypass when the "brake pedal" is released and the piston slides back to its relaxed position. This ensures that as the brake shoes wear extra fluid is allowed in the lines to compensate for the wear......Again a W.A.G. on my part.

Make sure you give things a good blast of air before assembly, and I just use brakeclean to clean it up, and dip in brake fluid for assembly.

So I let the MC soak in mixture of vinegar and WD-40 for now. The parts all seem to be OK just pretty dirty. Thanks again Stocker...
