where appears a crack in the block, between two holes that are in the block.
I Agree, Information is Really Thin......
But, I;ll venture a Guess.........

This motor has been Frozen, with water in it.......

Epoxy will work for awhile,
But, A replacement Block is the Only Cure.........

Re: Block cracks in Volvo 2002

Actually guys. The 2002 is probably not the year but the model number. It's a 2 cylinder diesel used a lot in sail boats. Have a look
Volvo 2002
Either way, freezing may have caused the problem and I don't expect the epoxy will hold very long. I would keep a close eye on the oil, it's possible for the crack to allow water into the oil.
Cracked blocks on any engine isn't good, on a diesel, it needs to have the block replaced.

Block cracks in Volvo 2002

I have in my sailship (28 feet)a Volvo 2002, where appears a crack in the block, between two holes that are in the block.
I sealed the crack with a epoxy glue, and that seems to work.
Have anybody experience with that matter?
Thanks.
Gabriel, Buenos Aires, Argentina

Re: Block cracks in Volvo 2002

My engine is a two cilinder motor, about 850 cm3, 18 HP. The crack was not produced by frozen water. I live in Buenos Aires, Argentina, and we are in springtime.
Because is the outer wall of the block, there is no mix between the oil and the water.
Now I am running the engine with epoxy glue, without leaks.
I am very $$$$$sad thinking that the correct way to repair is to change the block.
Gabriel
