Block drain plugs, 1995 Mercruiser 5.7l Alpha 1 Gen 2

I am getting ready to drain the engine and see the drain plugs are a recessed square fitting. Am curious to know what size these are and what to use to remove them.

Post a picture, sounds to me like you are looking at the wrong thing.

Those sound like the riser plugs.

Ayuh,.... Can't say that I've ever seen Drain plugs like that either...

Usually 7/16" hex heads for 1/8" pipe, 'n 9/16" for 1/4" pipe....
