Any pipethread sealant, including the Aviation sealer. Throw that teflon tape away.

Aviation sealant, sold in an auto parts store.
What's it used for, why is it called "aviation sealant"?
I have never laid eyes on it. Does it have a Mil Spec number?
I Googled Permatex, no such item on the home page.

Ayuh,.... I think you'll find that,....
It's 1 of the many names for Permatex, #1........
it's a brush-on,.... rather than the putty like #2.......

I wouldn't use it,...... Those drains manage to get pretty Stuck all on their own,...

Personally,........

I Slather them with Grease........

Never had a Leaky 1,+ they Always come out..........

Grease works for me too ! I have to agree a pipe thread should have a sealer, and teflon is great, but because these plugs come out at least once a year, grease works the best for ease of removal and reinstal, and the block threads don't rust (as they would if left dry)

YEAH MAN on the rust! Do NOT leave the plugs out like over winter. Get so damn rusty you will never get them back in. Neighbor thought that would be a good idea one year. Little grease will do ya fine..

The plug doesn't come out does it? It's a drain tap. Pipe stays in block while you just open up the valve to let water out...

Right?

I took mine off this winter, because I wanted a new one, but usually, it would not be removed, just opened and drained, I thought...

I Pull the Whole Thing........

You Can't Rod it out with a Screw to get the Crap(rust, sand, etc. ) out of it, If there's a Center in the valve.....
And,.....
Even if you've got the 1s with the centerhole,......
A Bigger Hole is Better for the Same Reasons.......

I'v always put either marine trailer grease, or OMC/Bomb Triple guard grease on mine, and they always come out, even after a season of raw water cooling in salt....
