Block Numbers ; What's the differnce ?

Both are Re-man motors from City Motor Supply in Dallas . Shop said they would be identical GM 350's .030 over . 2 bolt 2 piece rear main seal. Swaping motors: Old block # 14010207 New Block #3970014
Old block had Oil Pan Baffel and provisions to mount. The New block does not .
Also the Old block had short 1 1/2"tabs the head bolts. The new has 2 inch+ long boss.
And another thing is the New block is supposed to come with Hardend Push Rods and Rockers-but look identical to me.

Any info on these two would be greatly appreciated.

Casting Number on the block hardly matters, only for certain things. The casting numbers just tell things like two bolt main and when it was cast. The castings may have different appearances but a 350 of the same generation is still a 350. As far as what the differences are between your two numbers maybe some one else can decider the numbers.

Old block # 14010207 should be... 1980-85, 2 or 4 bolt main, truck/ some corvette

New Block #3970014 should be 1968-1979, 2 bolt main, car or truck

not sure what you are describing about tabs and bosses...

push-rods would need to be hardened if you have guide plates under the rocker studs.

what happened to the other one?

the Old (2010) motor injested water and blew out #5 cylinder wall. Have not checked impeller yet but the exhaust flappers had discintegratded . My main concern is not having an oil baffle flying accross the waves. Anyone know issue or not???
Called the engine shop and they said the hardened parts are identical but heat treated. dip stick is the same.

Any story as to what happened? Do you know what failed first? What makes you sure its from water ingestion?

A couple of things apparent from the picture.

Pin is galled
No remnants of sealant visible on head bolts
Pistons are quite filthy for a low hours engine.

Ive seen the inexpensive reman cast pistons come apart at the pin boss and cause this type of carnage.

You referring to a windage tray or a baffled oil pan ?

Thx Joe, Windage tray has no were to bolt on New Motor.

Most windage trays require the proper main cap bolts with stand offs and nuts. Just swap the bolts. Very important to use proper torque on main caps.

I orderd a windage tray that attaches to the oil pan .
