Re: Blood on boat seats.

Thanks everybody for the kind words!

Stanley Steemer in Rockford is going sell me have some of their cleaner that they use on blood stains in carpet. They tell me it will remove all traces of it from the bilge. I figure I will pull the deck cover and dump it in with some water. They told me a 50/50 mix is best. They also told me to let it sit overnight and then flush it out.

Re: Blood on boat seats.

Itsaboattime,
This is going to seriously cut into your own boating time, isn't it?

First off, you have a lot of work ahead of you if you are going to it right. Otherwise, anything you do or have done is for not.:(

You're going to need to remove the ski hold hatch and mount and get up under the the rim of the ski hold and any other place that the blood would have been.

Soaking the bilge will only get the surface area it is in contact with. You could try raising and lowering the trailer tongue several times to get the solution "sloshing and splashing".

Take some water, try to reenact where she was and use the water to track where the blood went. This will give you a better idea as to where to look for "hidden" blood. I can only assume that there would be tissue as well. With the extensive damage that was done, if any first aid was rendered in the boat, debridement of the wounds would remove loose/torn tissue. This could be hiding in the boat as well.

I would recommend pulling the seats and bases as there could very well be blood hiding under them in the carpet. If she was in the bow, remove the seats from there also. Look for blood under the hinges. The same for the bench seat. Also, you might consider loosening the side panels at whatever point she got in and out of the boat and looking for blood lurking behind them. Scour the underside of the sundeck or dog house, whichever it has. Cover the engine and electronics and spray the underside of the rear hatch really good also. (Assuming it has an IO)
You would be suprised where blood can get. Especially when it gets wet. It will go anyplace water can get and it stays there. As for getting it completely clean and odorless, with the amount of blood loss she had, it will be very difficult if not impossible. You can minimize the future odors but I'm afraid that is about it. Look for products with blood eating enzymes. Look at some "pet stain and odor" cleaners like "Natures Miracle". The proteins in the blood bond with materials in heat, and with the heat we've had here since that happened...oh boy. Enzymatic cleaners have proteins that "eat" blood proteins. (I assume that the cleaner you are getting from Rockford would have this in it anyway. But this is at least how and why it works.) And do not cover the boat, it will turn it into an oven:eek:, and then you are fighting yourself.

Good luck to you, and yep, gotta agree, pretty good friend to take that on.
I gotta know though, if you knew how involved it was going to be...would you have still said yes?;)

I think you would have. :)

Re: Blood on boat seats.

Thad if you had came down Fargo street you would have seen me almost completely dis-assembling that Bayliner. The neighbors must have thought I was crazy. I pulled all the cushions out, all the seats, lifted the dog house. Everything that wasn't fiberglass or permenantly attached was in my yard. I hit it all with 409 and then bleach and then Clorox cleanup then Fantastik. Let it air dry while I worked on the parts that I had removed. I'm not going to go into what I found. No need.
Thanks to the guys here on iboats I learned the peroxide trick :D. I gotta remember that one. The only thing I couldn't get to is an area of the bilge under the deck that is sealed. It is just aft of the seats and forward of the engine compartment. I assume(yeah I know..*** u me) it is filled with foam. I scrubbed my butt off. The area that I can't get to has no access hatch and I believe there is just a channel at the keel to allow water to run through? There is a fiberglass tube at the bottom of the bulkhead in the front and the back of this section. I don't know if that tube runs all the way through that chamber or if it's just a penetration through the bulkheads.
This cleaner is supposed to have that enzyme you are talking about. If I go ahead and mix it up in the bilge and enlist my 2 sons to help me lift the tongue up and down to slosh it about, I think I may get the job done. You know I ain't that big a guy and that bayliner is pretty heavy.

The boat is no longer here. I took it back to her house. My lack of driveway means it would have to sit on the street. The street is no place for her boat. I didn't like it sitting out there as long as it did. Mine sits there, but mine is also almost 30 years old and pretty tired. LOL.

Is the time invested worth it? Absolutly. Would I do it again? Absolutly.
Does she owe me a beer? Absolutly!!!! But that can wait........lol

Re: Blood on boat seats.

Good job!:D I'm proud of ya.:) Good friends are hard to come by these days.

Look in the bow for drain holes. That tube should run from the bow compartments under the ski hold to the bilge. Other than that, sounds like you got it as best as it is going to get. Good for you.

By the way, you were sitting right next to the wife and me Friday night at meet the Dukes and Duchesses. I did not realize it until we were walking out. I turned to say bye to Buddy and saw you. Tell your daughter good luck on their first game Friday. My daughters first game is tomorrow night.
Oh, you going out Saturday? Running out of good weekends:(.

Awe man I didn't see ya!! My really bad!! :( :( :(

She is supposed to start at "2" back and left corner back. We'll see. There is one draw play that scares the Sh*t outta me, she has to block the middle line backer. She has alot of heart but she is only 5'5" and about 140lbs. I'm glad I was able to get her some shoulder pads made for girls. The one's the High School issued her were kinda "binding".

Tell your daughter I said good luck and to stomp 'em!!

I prolly will be there. I am a big "athletic supporter". LoL!!

I will be out Saturday. I gonna try and make a day of it. I wanna see how the ol girl does with a tube. Towing one with the 50 horse was like pulling an anchor. The 110 should pull it with no troubles. My biggest worry is traffic. I will put in at Woodland shores and try to "play" up river, where it makes the big bend just down from dixon. Not much traffic there and I can see how it's gonna handle with a tube. Then I will hit the sandbar. Hopfully I'll see ya there.

Yeah, I didn't see you until we were walking out the door. I saw your daughter. She is the only reason we were still there. Autumn wanted to cheer for her when she came out.
Hopefully the girls will do well. They play Newman:eek:. It wasn't good last year. But they have lost a lot of their varsity team so we'll see.

I hope to get the lids hung Friday evening/early Monday and play the rest of the day. I'll see if Autumn wants to bring Big Mable out, maybe we can meet up and the girls can get together.

:mad::mad::mad:Newman!!!:mad::mad::mad:

I have issues with that school.
Now I promise I will be there.

Chances are I will have her with me and at least one of her friends. I need a spotter anyhow. LoL.

I want to be out by 9:00. Maybe a lil early, chilly. I want to get there before there is a bunch of traffic.

Do you put in @ Rockfalls??

Re: Blood on boat seats.

Nope, we put in down at Memorial pool on 1st St.

I hope to get out by 11. Might be more like noon. Autumn has practice 'til 10:30.

Yeah, I hope they take Newman out in two sets. Last year, if it came down to the third, the girls seemed to loose it at the end.
