Blower advice

We bought our first boat recently (2007 Bayliner 195) and it looks as though we need to replace the blower. We have replaced the fuse but when we turn the blower switch on, we hear a "pop" and the new fuse blows.

What type of blower should we buy? Can we purchase online and my husband install (we are completely new boat owners)?

Thanks for your input/advice.

Re: Blower advice

Hi Welcome to the wonderful world of boating Easy fix A blower runs about $20.00 Before you replace it I would disconnect the wires at the blower MAKE SURE the leads dont touch each other. And hit the power switch . If the fuse still blows you probably have a direct short in your wireing. AS in maybe the insulation on the wires wore of somewhere and the bare wires are touching each other. Zap goes the fuse.If the fuse doesnt blow. Its gonna be the blower motor. Easy- 2 clampps hold the ductwork on and a couple screws attach it to the boat. You can know for sure that its the blower by touching the wires coming out of the blower motor to the batt JUST FOR A SECOND! and see if it works THE WIRES MIGHT GET HOT LIKE RIGHT NOW SO BE QUICK LIKE A BUNNY!..any marina or boat supply store should have a blower in stock or on line anywher

Measure your diameter. Blowers come in a few different sizes with the most common being either 3 inch or 4 inch.
