Got an '89 Mariner OB 40 hp. Changing out the lower unit gear oil. While draining out old oil and had a blue color. Any idea what brand or made by? Is this reg/convent oil or Synthetic? I would like to use the same stuff.

Blue/green is the normal color of regular gear oil.

You can probably get the gearcase full by using one small squeeze tube full of lower unit oil. iboats, NAPA, walmart etc all carry it

Yup I use walmart's quicksilver. 1 Quart will be more than enough for every lower unit that I have ever filled. Runs about $11.

I used a quart of Sierra synthetic gear lube and it was blue, not the normal blue/green.

Blue is my favorite color of gear oil. Brown . . . not so much.

Blue/green and smells like a polecat pissed on a dead skunk = probably good stuff.

Add food coloring to desired flavor/ color. blue plus red= purple, blue plus yellow=green etc.
