I've had this 85 Capri since August of 2007 and I always assumed the blue band above the rub rail was painted on. Turns out its blue gel coat. Got a chip in the gel near the tip of the bow and its right through to the fiberglass. Solid blue gel. The blue band starts thin up in the bow and ends up about 6 inches wide at the transom. There is a strip of blue tape where the blue meets the cream, and I guess its to hide a rough join between blue and cream gel?

Anyone ever peel back the blue vinyl stripe and see whats behind it?

Seems like a lot of work to do that little bit of boat in gel. I would have painted it myself. The good news is the few skuff marks can be polished out. I was leaving them because I thought it was paint.

Hey Mark,

It does cover the "meeting" of the two colors. It's smooth as a baby's butt - the line just isn't the straightest thing in the world.
If for some reason you want to replace that tape here's the place to get it:

Thanks for the info, gcboat. I might use some of that tape as a stripe on the new hard top.

It is not that big a deal to spray color in the mold, like said they tape it so fast the lines are crooked and they stripe tape those.
