I bought a boat (not a BW) last year . IT was about 15 years old, floor got a soft spot in it shortly after we started using it. Im going to take a woopin and sell it . My question is do old blue waves have rot problem ? I would like to hear from owners of old blue wave on how the wood in the boat is holding up ? I only buy boats with cash so to have one it must be an older one and i dont want to get burned again. The boat i bought turned out to have a reputation for ROT so i throught id ask before jumping in this time. thanks

Spend some time in the restoration forum and you'll learn what to look for when buying a rotten... uh, er... I mean used boat, yeah, that's it... used boat.

i agree with jigngrubb

you could have two boats identical in year motor and everything.
first one was owned by someone who rode it hard and put it away wet
and the other was treated with kid gloves
makes make no difference
the way it was taken care of makes all the difference
take a look at your 2 year old sofa that the kids have been abusing
and look at your grandmas 30 year old sofa that was never alowed out of the plastic which one is in better shape

Re: blue wave rot ?

from what I see here, fresh water boats are more prone to rot; carpeted boats that have to be kept covered are more prone to rot; i/o are more prone to rot; boats that drain into the bilge (v. self-bailing) are prone to rot.

But as said above, how they are stored maked the difference. But initial quality matters, too. I can't picture how any boat stored on a trailer, plug out, could get wet enough to rot, but apparently some types of boats do.

Thanks for the replies butt I'm really only looking for replies from blue wave owners. All your points are valid and well taken. Blue wave owners love to hear from you on your opion of older blue waves. Thanks

For what it's worth, I've had my 2003 Blue Wave (190 Deluxe C Special) since it was new, and the deck and transom are both as solid as ever.

Re: blue wave rot ?

well thats like asking if any brand of vehicle has ever broken down... ALL dealershis have a service shop and all brands make/sell replacement parts.. therefore any boat with wood can/will rot. it depends on how its taken care of. my old blue wave had to havefloor and transom replaced twice thru its life. my older chapparral (1981) has never been opened up. still solid. have i see other chaps with rot? most definitely.... has my boat been taken care of? you bet... was my BR taken care of? u bet. but how well by PO? icouldnt tell you. so to answer your question. ANY boat with wood can/will rot. period. unless you take care of it to keep it up or have some special no-rot wood in it. but i bet a fully alluminum boat wont rot. lol i also have an older boat and understand that you have to buy what you can afford. im in the same boat pun intended.
