I saw an interesting idea in the form of a craigslist ad--the seller worked on escalators, and he had long pieces of used escalator handrails from ones he had renovated. he put his ad in the boat section, for use on piers and docks, and he said they were non-marring. Install with SS screws and washers. They are thick enough you might be able to countersink them.
Seems they would be great for long sections of floating docks and around metal fittings.
They would also be good on work boats--many of ours use old fire hose. Might have a good application on trailers and the structures on lifts as well.
I bet they would be right slippery on a trailer bunk, too.
he said he usually sells out of them when he has them and advertises. Seems like it wouldn't be hard for you all in other places to approach the escalator repair guys, maybe even start a side business. After all, recycling/repurposing is all the rave now!
