It looks like a great boat especially for a first!!!I guess it really depends on where the auction end pricewise.Welded alum is the way to go if its alum. you want and the motor looks good too.Good luck Charlie

Is Fisher aluminum reliable? How much should I go to pricewise for that auction? Thanks again.

Why not ask how much it would go for new at a local dealer and judge from there.

Looks like a really nice rig!

Thats the catch, there aren't any of these aluminum boat dealers in my area. I think it is worth alot more than I can afford. Does anyone know how much this boat should be worth? Thanks

SeaFoam,

That should be a very trouble free boat. s long as the engine is OK, physically. (compression, etc).

The boat, itself should be very low mainrenance.

I would expect that rig to go for between $8-11,000.00, if it's super clean.

Go to NADA and piece together an estimate.

As an example. I sold a 17' Lowe (very similar) with a 90 hp, eight years ago. The boat was seven years old at that time, yet was PERFECT in every way. The asking price of $6,000.00 was taken by the first looker.

Re: Boat any good for first?

New, this boat sells in the $12,000 to $13,000 range.
I believe this one (2000) was made when Brunswich (Mercury) owned Fisher. Fisher has now been sold to Tracker Marine. Thats why all the new Trackers are welded hulls now.
This appears to be the same hull as my Spectrum (also a Brunswich line), although mine is a single console model, without all the fancy trim.

It floats high in the water, and is a little light in the front, so the bow bounces some when hitting bigger waves, but it is not a rough ride.

One thing about welded hulls, the absense of a protruding keel or the usual riveted on strakes on the bottom of the hull, makes the boat slide a bit in high speed turns.

Seafoam,

That looks like a dandy! My advice would be to watch the price and not go to deep financialy on your first boat especially from e-bay.

*Sure looks clean*

Good luck!

Re: Boat any good for first?

After buying several boats on Ebay I learned some hard lessons. They are on Ebay for a reason, and most did not, or will not sell at their respective local markets where people can inspect for problems. One bit of info I will share is ask the tough questions like:
1.Do you have good title to boat, trailer, and motor (if applies for your state)? tell them you wont accept untransfered titles from some prior owner.
2.Has it been wrecked, broken, and what repairs have been made?
3.etc..............

I drove 100's of miles to find some butchered up boats with no titles. One trick on Ebay is the wetting of the boat with water or cooking spray... to improve its shine. Dont be afraid to ask the tough questions, and if in dought ask for a close-up photo of the area or item.

Just my $0.02 worth

Thanks for the info. He said he has the title and that I am welcome to come inspect the boat in person, so I believe it is on the "up and up". I am going to arrange an inspection in person.

It looks like a nice boat. My only comment is that it has a painted trailer, which should not be used in salt water.

Re: Boat any good for first?

Sounds like you are on the right track. Out of 7 boats bought on ebay in the last two years only 2 were advertised with an accurate description. Both of them were from dealer liquidation stock, and both were exactly like the description stated....rough. I will share a quick story.

I drove 650 miles to pick up an Ebay boat with a small place on the hull that needed attention. I wont list all of the problems, but will say the cavitation plate on the engine had a paint paddle siliconed in place and painted to match the motor for the photos. The boat had been wet with a water hose to improve its shine, and that spot on the hull turned out to be a 12in x 30in section of the hull that had delaminated and flaked off!! None of which was disclosed. How is that for honesty in a description.

Just my $0.02 worth

Re: Boat any good for first?

Looks like a great first boat; go and inspect the boat and ask for a sea trial. If the seller won't put it in the water that may be a good indication of a problem.

Good luck
