Boat Busted

[USS MINNOW]

On the lake, I hit something unseen and when I got out I realized I had busted something. I'm not sure what it is and I can't find a diagram anywhere that I can look at and pick the part. The boat is a 2011 Tahoe Q7i, 5.0 Mercruiser I/O EFI.

The piece busted sits behind the outboard, against the boat, it's a fin that when the motor is trimmed all the way down, it rests between these 2 fins. The piece busted is now dangling on the rod that goes between the 2 hydraulic trim arms. It seems it MIGHT be related to the steering? I have no idea what it is and therefore can't begin to look at cost of repair. Any help on what it is or where to find an illustrated diagram?

Post a picture of the damaged part, and the outdrive itself. It could be the mount for the trim rams or even the anti cavitation plate. Or a trim tab.

Ayuh,..... So post a picture of the problem area,.....

My best guess is, it's the drive stabilizer ear on the gimbel ring,...

We'll need to know if it's an Alpha or Bravo drive but it sure sounds like you broke the gimbal ring. http://www.mercruiserparts.com/Show...&bnbr=90&bdesc=GIMBAL+RING+AND+STEERING+LEVER

If so, for a shop to repair it properly, you'd be in the $1500.00 - $1800.00 range as the engine usually would come out and possibly remove the transom assembly at most shops to gain access to the steering and gimbal ring hardware.

Insurance may cover an under water strike if needed.

Unfortunately, you broke your gimbal ring. This is an expensive repair. The part itself is around a grand but the amount of work to get to it and replace (the things that need dis-assembling and reassembling) will take the same amount of money in labor if not more.

You are most correct. Likely to break something else even more expensive.
