Re: boat capsized

You know, I don't blame Kingster for not answering the questions about insurance. Why does it matter at this point? He wants to know how to fix his boat. Whether or not he had insurance doesn't make any difference as to how he should fix his boat. Some people don't carry comprehensive insurance. It's not a safety issue. It's a financial decision. I don't carry comprehensive insurance on my boat. It's old and has a low blue book value and the premiums would exceed the value of the boat in a short amount of time. How can knowing whether he had insurance help him solve his problem? He's already got salt water in his boat. I don't think he needs any salt in his wounds.

Boat insurance is more than just to cover his boat. It's to protect me too. A fellow boater in case he was to run into me or a property owner who he may run into and damage their property, Boat, Dock and the Liability factor too if he hits someone in the water. No Insurance you hit me I sue, you lose everything you own! Just that simple. Is not having insurance worth that risk? What if I hit you? My Insurance will cover you and your property!

You can add Boat insurance to your Homeowners policy for a little bit of nothing. If you have Home owners Insurance. I spend $2,000 a year on Insurances. HOME, AUTO, RV, BOAT. Do I feel sorry for people that lose their home, personal property to flood, fire or whatever and have no insurance? EMPHATICALLY NO!

I'm not trying to rub salt in his wound. But if he has Insurance he needs to file a claim. That's why we have Insurance if he doesn't. Then it's to bad then he has to pay the piper. It would have been cheaper to pay the Insurance premium.

I guess that the reason the question is being asked is if he did have insurance, then he is wasting his time trying to fix the boat. Insurance should take care of it. But unfortunately it sounds like he did not, therefore he is trying to fix it himself. I wish him luck!!

Have a great day,

Rob.

What a deal!! So what if you lose your boat, mine is worth $8k. That is not really the big one, can recover from that loss. It is the liability that is the big one. If something happens, you can lose everything, house, etc., can't recover from that one. Insurance is definitely worth it. Over here, we spend over $4,500 per year on insurance. 2 cars, boat, house.

This thread is NOT about insurance, he wants to know how to get the engine running and save it as best he can, and there is no need whatsoever for him to have to expain his insurance to you or anyone else on a forum.

You're talking about liability insurance. Liability insurance won't help you get your boat fixed. Only comprehensive will. I carry liability insurance on all of my vehicles, but I don't carry comprehensive on any of them. So far, I've made out like a bandit. The amount I've saved over the years far exceeds the combined value of all of my current vehicles.

If you hit me, your insurance will cover my property regardless of whether I have comprehensive.

I say we get away from the question of whether he had insurance and start helping him out.

A lot of this is academic since we don't know the current condition of the boat. However, if it capsized and is somehow floating upside-down with the hull above water, there's a chance that there's no salt water in the engine or the electrics. I find it hard to believe that this would happen, but it could be that a capsizing is not as bad as total immersion. Maybe others have had experience with capsizing.

Actually Rob,

I guess it's closer to $4,000 for Insurances annually. Everybody gets the point anyway. Like you said more what's important than protecting my property is the Personal Liability.
