Agghhh, I mean "Boat" Cover Choices.....

I am looking for a new boat cover for a Triumph 210, 2002?. I don?t want to get a full custom Sunbrella cover at $650 because I plan to sell my boat in about 4-5 years so I was looking at some of the semi-custom covers on-line in the $200-$350 range. There are a bunch of different materials out there but does anyone have any experience with these covers at for example (discountboatcovers.com, boatcovers.iboat.com, etc?.) any input will be much appreciated, thanks.

I am mainly trying to determine the best material ?vs- cost and if the material is ?waterproof? will it puddle up in the middle of the bow area and at the stern gunwales, thanks.

Not really sure why you don't want a custom cover for your boat now.. You said you will have it 4-5 years? Covers don't usually last too much over that. But even if the cover does last that long it will help in the selling of the boat. Are you looking for something to cover it and tow it or when it sits for the winter? To keep it from getting the puddle in the middle you get the posts that hold it up so it doesn't puddle. I had a custom cover made for my boat and love it. I cover it to tow it but it is kept in the garage year round. The cover is so when we are out at the lake on the week-end and it rains I can cover it up. And when we are on our way home I cover it so the stuff doesn't blow out of the boat. I get home I clean the boat and uncover it so it will dry out. The kind of cover you get is really dependent on what you want it for. Hope that helpeped...

Re: Boat Cover Choices

Thanks for the reply. I won't be towing the boat with the cover on, it will be only used when I store it in my back yard. When I bought the boat, I got a Sunbrella cover and it seemed to last about 10-12 years but I paid $800 for it back then.

I know you mentioned a "post" to hold it up. I never had one of these, where do you get one or do you fabricate your own?, thanks.

Custom cover, only way to go. For the posts I would look here on I-Boats, or West Marine, or even the guy who makes the custom cover. Basically it's telescoping post. Bottom sits on the floor and the top is where the cover rests on. Usually whoever makes the top will have some fabric reinforcements or something to prevent the post from poking through the cover. The posts are also used to keep tension on the cover so when your towing it doesn't flop around.
And as menioned before, a custom cover will only add value to the boat when you sell it.
