Boat cover question

I bought a Carver Poly Guard boat cover from here on iboats a couple of years ago for my Checkmate rebuild project, since the boat has lived in the garage I haven't had to use the cover yet but that's about to change. With all the rain we've been having I'm going to need to kick the Checkmate out for at least a few weekends so I can get some fiberglass work done on our current project.

I was reading through the instructions that came with the cover and it says ".... If cleaning deminishes the water repellency of the cover, we recommend treating with 303 High Tech Fabric Guard Water Repellent." (The spelling goofs are in the instructions, you'd think they'd proof read better.)

SO... can I safely assume that the cover is adequately waterproofed as it comes out of the box?

edit to add: And what's the deal with the cheesy link to the boat cover section of the online store when I have the words 'boat cover' in my post?

Re: Boat cover question

it's probably fine but carver has very good customer service if you give them a call. iboats can give you the number if it's not printed on your paperwork.

i noticed the underlined boat cover in another thread. online marketing is no joke.

It is supposed to be treated when you pull it out of the box. But time, weather, cleaning all take their toll on the repellency so it may need to be retreated.
But yours sounds essentially new so you should be good.
I did receive a new cover a year ago that apparently was not treated. Bu it was replaced under waranty.

Re: Boat cover question

Thanks for the replies. Yes, my cover is essentially brand new, except that it's been sitting in the box unused for 2 years. I kinda' feel guilty kicking my Checkmate out of the garage, but it's hard to do fiberglass layups in the rain.

One more question.... Is that 303 water repellant any good. I guess I've lived a sheltered life 'cause I've never even heard of it, but searched last night and find everybody and his brother selling it online.

Re: Boat cover question

I believe that 303 is actually recommended by Sunbrella to treat their fabrics.
They are a major player and I can't see why they would recommend anything that wouldn't do the job.
