Hi Crestcraft,
Our friends all have that chord lighting on their bow rails. The problem with that, is that the spiders have hay-days in their and love to mangle with it. I think we are going to put the white chord lighting around our bow rail. It looks nice at night and it really dresses up the peir and boats around you.

JAZZ ;)

Don't know what happened to my previous post but check out this website as they produce different colored rope lights for marine use at 12 volts Marine Rope Lights

My 1986 Regal has this type of lighting in the forward state room, salon and aft cabin. It has a soft warm glow only suitable as an accent or nignt light for kids. It also doesn't seem any worse on the batteries than the regular cabin lights.

Re: boat deck lighting

I remember when I first heard about this stuff 5 years ago. I believe it was introduced to the market by a company named Varad. The rope is made of an Electro-luminescent sheet which is twisted up inside of a clear tube. The positive and negative wires run along the length of the rope and will allow you to cut it to length. It is the same technology that Pioneer uses for their famous "dolphin" Cd players. The original kits came with superglue to attach it to the interior of your car but I dont know if that will work on the outside of a boat. The only down side I can think of is that it could give away your location to the DNR during those "late night swimming sessions" that some people like to do. The rope light is very popular with the "import scene" and I believe you can see some examples of this type of lighting in the oscar winning film "The Fast And The Furious" I hope this answered some of your questions crets craft
