motor is an evinrude 115hp. v4. it takes about 15-20 mins. to get out of my harbor (no wake zone) about half way out the motor sounds like it loses a cyl. (gets a little shakey, losses power) sometimes it stay's that way, sometimes after 30 sec.- 1min., more or less it will perk right up and runs perfect again. one time it died and did not re-start. the reason i ask about the coils is that the 2 bottom ones (1each side of cyl. banks) have hairline cracks in them. the 2 bottom coils are differant than the 2 top one's, as the bottom one's have removable spark plug wires and the top one's the wire's are molded into the coils and are not removable. is there a way to check the coils? a have a liitle craftsman electrical meter but i'm not great at knowing what to do with it. thank's for any help!

you need an adjustable spark tester. auto parts store. but it perking up and running fine, is not really a sign of a coil going bad, when they get hot they fail, and do not work again until the cool.

i think you need to get the OEM manual, and do some more troubleshooting, before buying any parts.
