Re: Boat doesn't move under load.

Ok. I think I have determined the aluminuim prop on it is not slipping at all, I found it was a new prop the original owner stashed on the boat just incase.. 3 out of 3 times the lines I marked on the prop hub with are lined up exactly as I had them. I took it out again today and let it run around at 3500rpm all around the lake to see if it would happen .... it didnt happen. If I take it over 4k to plane it out around 4000 like clockwork it revs to the moon and the wake behind it is unchurned and the bow will fall off the hump.

About 2 weeks ago I accidenly ran the ss prop into a hidden sandbar and it dented up the prop a little. Is it possible it broke the shift syncros/forks or something in the lower unit? This boat is old, but it has been babied and always maintained to the max extent so I doubt it is worn out naturally.

Everything I read about the coupler states it generaly won't move at all. I would hate to pull the motor and outdrive just to find its ok. I was wanting to wait to pull the motor untill I had my ready 496 to go in. I am praying I dont have to do it twice.

Re: Boat doesn't move under load.

The coupler in the boat was a 4.3 coupler hooked to a 454. The rubber was spinning around the center metal section. The large coupler pictured is the proper coupler for my boat. I just have to tweak the alignment a bit more tomorrow and order a set of exhaust gaskets and it should be ready to go this weekend.
