Boat fell!

Okay, here's the story.. I have been storing the boat in the garage and I had the trailer on jack stands just enough to take the weight of the tires and the outdrive lowered to the ground. Here's where it gets interesting... Mother-in-law pulled her truck in the driveway, got out without putting it in park, well needless to say the truck hit the trailer tongue which caused it to fall off the jack stands and the outdrive hit the floor. My question is what should I be looking for damage wise?

Re: Boat fell!

Was there any visible damage ?

Like broken skeg ?

Was the prop on or off ?

If the prop was on did it come in contact with the floor ? (bent blades possible bent output shaft)

For that to happen I would imagine the skeg would be damaged. These are just some of the obvious things to look at , as far as if it could have damaged other things I couldn't tell you but it is a place to start looking.

Ouch!! Hope all is ok with the drive and prop. Besides obvious damage, I'd be looking for a smarter mother in law! Sorry, sure she is great but I couldn't resist. Good luck!

a seriously hurt MIL....bruising around the mouth.....nose.....eyes.

a new wife after seeing damage inflicted on MIL.

:D

broken....damaged skeg....damage to hull of boat where it came in contact with the trailer....these will appear as cracks in the gellcoat (if glass) or bends and damage if its a tinny.

Re: Boat fell!

Well now that i have looked further SHE may have gotten really lucky. I only had the trailer on about a half inch off the ground and the skeg looks fine. ( I doubt the prop hit) So besides not wanting to see her for a long time, the boat and trailer seem okay. Luckily my 5 y/o son wasn't hurt. She could have killed somebody.

Damn. Sounds like boat and trailer are damaged beyond repair. Ask MIL for $25k check and go boat shopping :)

Re: Boat fell!

If there is any damage it will be obvious, bent skeg or prop.

The skeg is designed to hit before the prop so if it is okay everything else should be too.
