Boat HP rating certification

I have a 2005 Fisher Pro Hawk 180 (essentially a bass tracker TV-18.) That does not have a hp rating placard on it. I have read online of a rating up to 125 horse, but I also found a guy with that same boat that has a placard rating of 150. Definitely don't want to short myself on hp potential. What entity would I need to pursue to get it officially certified for a horsepower rating?

Looks like 125. Perhaps the person with the 150 placard didn't have the original and/or wanted to use a 150.

The Tracker you mentioned IS rated for 150, so it is likely somewhat different from your boat.

Yea NYBo, they one that had the 150 was a Tracker model. Curious why that one would be 150 and mine would be 125? As far as I can research they are the exact same boat. They definitely have the exact same layout and the same hull specs.

The rating would all depend on the test trial before the boat was marketed to the public.

My first thought would be weight. The engines take a big jump in weight as they jump from 4 cylinders to 6 in that 125 > 150 hp increase.

Since Fisher was a division of Tracker, it may have been a marketing decision to move buyers toward Trackers if a buyer wanted more power. I don't know.

Regardless, what was on the plate is what determines max power whether the plate is there or missing.
