On my Wellcraft Sportsman, I noticed the faint outline of it's "registration" number, where the original decal/lettering had been removed. FWIW, I live in Ireland where registration as such, isn't a requirement. Anyway, my question is this. Is there a database online or anywhere, that might give me details of my boats previous owner/s and any history etc. Like when and how it came to arrive n Ireland. It might be nice for a previous owner to see that she's still alive and well and refitted, being given a new lease of life. Just wondering and thanks.

No database for that

You can run the HIN thru a decoder and get manufacturing info, but only year, maker and any recalls issued by the maker.

sogood, if you can still read or possible make out the ID faded numbers, it could point to the state it was last registered in if it came from the US. Then you can contact that state's authority to see if you could get more information about it. Just an idea.

Does Ireland have states? I don't think they do.

Do you have boat titles or a way to prove ownership, sogood? If so, that may be the way to trace the boat's history.

I can make out the full details including the state. Here in Ireland we don't have registration or paperwork to speak of. Buying a boat second hand is a bit like buying a wardrobe. A receipt of sorts is about the most that might exist. I'll try contacting the state authority in the U.S. and see if I can unearth anything. Thanks for the input.

You might try running the HIN by Wellcraft. Sometimes they keep records to notify owners of recalls, if the boat isn't too old.
