 I was just curious if any one ever put their boat in their swimming pool for amusement? I was thinking about doing it myself but it looks like too much effort just to be amused.

Boats and swimming pools are two pits you pour money into.

Combining the two doesn't make either less expensive. It's probably exponential.

I had a boat once that my kids used as a swimming pool, and I have often swum in my fishing hole.

This could be too much money..... first I would have to re-install the poll I got rid of 20 years ago....... fill it with water AND antifreeze just to try this...... I'll pass.

Looks to be way over loaded, no life vests on the kids.

Re: Boat in Swimming Pool

remember that the boat will displace it's weight in water, so if you know the weight of the boat and the surface area of the pool (and of course the density of water) you can calculate the amount that the level in the pool will rise. as long as the water will stay in the pool and the pool is deep enough there should be no issues.

Hears an interesting thought. If you put the boat in the pool, start the engine and let it idle for a while how long would it be before you noticed the effect on water quality? Would the pool filter take out the pollutants that the boat exhaust puts in?

I truly admire the thought you have put into this matter...:D

You ever see how mush stuff comes off kids when they jump in the water.

All the grease they slather themselves with.

Ever throw a dog in the water see how mush comes off them.

Keep the screen clean no problem.

And backwash of course.

Have you ever smelled the exhaust of a 2 stroke? or seen the oil sheen?

What will chlorine do to the rubber hoses in your I/O?

What will chlorine do to the impeller? Will it harden and eventually crack?

Well my pool is a large above ground pool, it would hold my boat but I have no idea how I could get a 17' fiberglass boat in there. If the liner wasn't an issue I would have no problem putting a 12-14' puddle jumper in there with a small outboard. It wouldn't be the dumbest thing i've ever done with a boat. That would be retreiving with the trim down...twice now!!!!

For those that have seen the "interesting use for a boat" thread. Take the wive's new boyfriend's boat and stick it in his pool :D, that would be one way to get back at him.

It would be a heck of a way to surprise someobody having the new boat in the swimming for christmas.

I wonder if they had to make a 3 point turn to turn the boat around in the picture Joed posted?

I'm an engineer, making a calculation like that is an automatic reaction for me, requiring no real thought.

Ahhh. Your engineering let you down. WaterWitch2 didn't say there was water in the pool. You just made that assumption. :D

If we are nit picking, I did specify that the depth of the pool was to be checked. I guess I should have said the depth of the water.
