i hate to say this to people, but sometimes there are physical limitations to what someone can do. sometimes be it for their own safety. perhaps she shouldn't be on a boat that she can't get into and out of. is there a life jacket that you have that fits her? (floats her) can she swim well? can she get around on yer boat when it's on high seas and bouncein all over? or does she become unstable. she might fall and injure herself. <br /><br />not related to boating, but i just helped a over weight fella out this last weekend. he was off his 2 seat jetski and couln't get back on for the boat tipping over. he was quite tired when i assisted him. i think for this guys safety, perhaps (i hope) he will think twice about gettin on a ski. bet it can get scary real fast if no one is there to help..... just my opinion of course. i feel bad for them, but folks gots to relize their limitations.<br />other than that. the docks yer only hope i'd think safety wise....

If you have a floating dock...this is simple...if not..then you will have to build a floating extention. Get 200+ yards of cable/chain..enuff to run along bottom from shore to your mooring. Disconnect dock (or dock extension) and "ferry" out to boat with MIL on dock. Tie off at mooring and boat. You may need to build steps onto your dock and may wnat to build ina cable guild so that if you let go..you wont float away. Leave dock at mooring for return trip.<br /><br />Give her the bill for all the special modifications you had to make.<br /><br />-JustMrWill

Maybe...<br />Remove the feed-bag and toss her in.<br />Then quickly hop onto her and paddle her ashore.<br />What's the problem?<br />Whew... now that I got that outa' my system.<br /><br />Seriously, the courtesy dock is the best way to go. We have an overweight camper in our family and that's what we did for him. Even if there is a slip, they won't go in the water. Getting in the smaller boat is easier from the dock level. A well constructed dock will be years of enjoyment for you and the kids as well. They're great! We had a slide and some permanent seating on ours (uncles). I say go for it, you'll make your life easier and you'll be in the 'good books' with her for being a nice guy. Win win.<br />I did a search and found this web page. <br />Good luck.

You may want to take her out on an aircraft carrier instead. Those lifts they use to load the planes work great for 300lb MILs

Next question, How do you get her off the boat. Seems to me that if there ever is an emergency aboard such as fire or gasoline explosion MIL is in deep trouble as she cannot manuever well. Chief

If you can find a life vest to fit you could use her as a raft for everyone else after pushing her overboard.

This whole thing may be pretty dangerous, I've recently learned that boats have 'capacity limits' as to how much A$$ they can safely carry. You should tell her that she may be in violation of saftey codes by riding in boats.

If you can build a platform where you moor your boat you can tie the boat to it instead of a mooring anchor and you can take the small boat with passengers out to the platform, tie it up there, and let the passengergs get off the small boat, onto the platform, and onto the large boat.

I like Ron's suggestion of the mooring platform for general purposes, but you still have the problem of getting her into/out of the small boat and into the cruiser don't you?<br /><br />Joe

Just reread this (y'all are still cold, but still funny). Although I read it the first time, I just visualized how far away 200 yards is. That's a LONG way to be ferrying anyone. Hope your small boat has a small motor...
