Re: Boat Launch Full AGAIN??

On the corps lakes around here, we have upwards of 20 ramps on the larger lakes. Occasionally, on a real busy day, or a holiday, when the parking spaces are filled they close off the entrance to that ramp with a boat ramp full sign. Basically they are telling you to drive 5 minutes further to get to any of the other ramps.

When we went to Ocean Isle Beach this summer, the ramp filled up on Saturday, and people parked dang near anywhere - behind the no parking on grass signs, backed their trailers into the ditch on the far side of the parking area, and I even saw a couple trailers backed into the gravel area where the power company trucks park to service a large power box. None seemed to be ticketed, so I guess either no one was watching, or they don't ticket illegal parking if the lot is full.

Wow!

These postings make me appreciate what we have here. I live on an island in a small village where we have 3 ramps to launch at in the ocean, one in town at the marina which costs $2.00 per launch or at the ferry ramp in Alliford Bay 10 kilometers from town or at Moresby Camp which is about 45 kilometers on gravel logging roads.

I have never had to wait (except for the ferry to leave at Alliford Bay) at any of these ramps.

There also 2 different lakes with crude ramps a person can launch at. Rarely any line ups at these either.

I guess I'm a lucky guy! :)

I've never seen any ramp close. I put in on a privately owned ramp on the river (that costs $5 to launch). When we go to Lake Barkley, I found a little boat ramp (single lane ramp) with a dock that almost nobody uses (and its free). The parking lot holds about 10-15 trucks, but parking is available on the side of the road, which is usually where I park anyways.

I wish I was on the water now...

Not an uncommon occurance around here. Duck lake, Narrow lake and others, when the parking lot is full you have to wait in line till someone leaves.
Last weekend they closed the ramp to incoming boats at Ludington State Park! I've been in that area for decades and have never seen that.
