well I think im nearing the end of my engine problems so on to the boat...

The boat has been taking in a little water in the hull and im trying to locate the leak the boat is a 1969 fabuglass tri hull (16'). the only plug under the floor is under the hull. Ive read on other posts to not put anymore water under floor to try and locate leak but I am very tempted...

any suggestions?

Re: boat leak

if there is foam under the floor I wouldn't do it. If there is no foam, go for it.

Re: boat leak

Check the hull bottom for deep scrapes, gouges, repairs done by the previous owner. Any repair that was not done by you and does not look trustworthy (an ugly garish blob of Marine Tex or, even worse, silicone counts as not trustworthy) should be redone. Check your mounting bolts if you have an outboard, check your seals and bellows if you have an inboard. Check the condition of the hull drain plug. If it is the brass sleeve type, make sure the sleeve is in good shape and not loose or spinning in the hole. Clean it with steel wool and make sure the plug is fresh and clean. If it is the threaded type plug make sure it tightens properly and the threads are in good shape. There are other less likely ways the water gets in (swimmers, splash while under way, broken speedo pitot tube, rain). Good luck...
