First time at the forum...

Hello folks,
My 19ft center console with a self bailing hull and powered by a 115hp merc outboard will soon be sporting a new transom. That is, once I make a decision to install a transom bracket or not.

One marine specialty fabricator recently recommended not installing transom brackets on boats less than 20 feet. Because apparently a smaller boat porpose when outfitted with them. Does anyone have experience outfitting a boat under 20ft with a bracket?

Re: boat length and transom brackets

reworded last night's post...

Hello folks,
Installing a new plywood transom core in my boat. The boat has a self bailing hull which has raised my fear factor a few times. So, since the transom is going to be replaced. I was considering replacing it with a flat transom and installing a (Armstrong, Gill,B type) transom bracket for the outboard.

The Boat is a 19ft Alcar center console that is powered by a 115hp merc (2 stroke).

One of the bracket fabricators I contacted. Recommended not installing a bracket on my boat, because it is less than than 20 feet. Their experience has been smaller boats porpose when outfitted with transom brackets.

I thought I had noticed boats less than 20'outfitted with transom brackets. But this gentlemans recommendation has me concerned.

Does anyone have experience outfitting a boat under 20ft with a transom bracket?
