Do you have a size in mind because I am pretty sure you won't find anything bigger than a 14' under that weight after you include motor, gas, battery and gear.
My wife is going to LDO school in March and wants a boat she can drop and recover at a ramp. The 18.5 foot pro-line we have is to heavy for her 2002 Subaru Legacy. So I am trying to find a boat that will be able to be towed and dropped by her tiny car, and that she can use. This might be impossible. I'm just trying.
Not even sure where she could drop in newport road island. I know road Island is spelled wrong... sorry. The pro Line we have, with trailer is 3650 lbs... way to much for her car. So I am looking for a smaller boat. I can't make the trailer weigh less. The togune weight is good at the moment. Sorry for all the spelling mistakes.
So I should be looking for tin? Maybe? Whats out there? We're married (10 years) and going to be separated for more than a year... Just trying to make her life better.
As others have said, I would be looking for an aluminum boat, probably around 14-15 feet which should not be to difficult to find in the weight range you are looking at.
Not recommended by the manufacture to tow anything. BUT the car can tow 2000 lbs. The trailer is 750 lbs so that would mean a boat of 1250 lbs. Sorry about the stupid math... probably should just get a bigger tow vehicle. Not really going to happen... so trying to find a smaller boat. She is from FL and having a boat would mean the world to her while she is in RI. I am just trying to see all the angles for when this happens... I have until March 2016
Might I suggest a Sylvan SEA MONSTER..15ft aluminum side console, nice beam. rated for a 50hp. I purchased one new in 1998, great little boat, had a 1999 Mercury 40hp 4cyl on it ....You might want to look into a Bayliner Element 160
I don't know anything other than fiberglass. That may be why. I've got a 18'6" ProLine Twin console Sport, that after a full tank or even empty is just to heavy for her car. I could swap motors, trailers, boats. Doesn't matter her car isn't able to handle more than #2000 safely. So I am trying to find a boat that it can. If that is not realistic. Just tell me. I am not savvy enough to know one way or the other.
That is why I said a 14-15 footer would work out for you, I have a 14 that I could tow with a Hundyai if I need to, it is not to heavy, but has plenty of room for my wife and I to spend a day fishing in with no problems. Forget the glass and start looking at the tin and you will find the right one.
On a whim I found this on RICL No windshield but it has a Yamaha, is glass, and by the iboats specs pages the hull weighs in at 525 (provided it isn't water logged) Don't know what the motor weighs but I'm sure google could tell ya and you can guesstimate the trailer
Point being I'd just start surfing CL and see what you tickles your fancy.
