Boat lies uneven on trailer

Hello all

I have an 18' bowrider that goes on a trailer with rollers. I am new to boating and have only loaded the boat on trailer a couple of times. The marina guy helps me guide boat on trailer. I got it last time, but when looking at boat from behind at distance it seems to be laying uneven to the left with right side of boat higher. Is it possible to load the boat uneven on trailer and pull it out or is it possible something is wrong with trailer. One of the single axle tires looks low too.

Re: Boat lies uneven on trailer

I am new to power boating myself. The way I have found best to load up straight on my roller trailer is to back down far enough that you don't have to winch the thing up. I hook the winch cable and safety chain to the bow, cinch it up, then pull with some gusto. It usually takes two or three dunks until it lays right on the trailer.

Pics are always helpful. Did the trailer come with the boat? One size does not fit all. Boat? Trailer? Perhaps someone here has pics of your particular one(s).
Welcome to Iboats.

check your tire pressure, before you have a blowout!

Re: Boat lies uneven on trailer

A lot of it is going to depend on the type of trailer you have and the type of boat you have, along with if you went into the water with a lean to the trailer, etc. My buddies trailer ( roller ) loads well enough, but because of the strakes on the boat itself, it has a tendency to get a little bit crooked.

Currently, my tri hull is sitting crooked on my trailer and I've had a helluva time figuring out exactly what I'm doing wrong with my bunk adjustments. Getting a trailer just right sometimes can be a real pain depending on the trailer.

I use guide-ons for my 5000 lb boat, it goes on straight every time except the one time someone was riding in the boat when I pulled it out...then it leaned to the right.

First, check your boat loading. Second, I'd suggest guide-ons if you don't have any use them.

Re: Boat lies uneven on trailer

My trailer has self adjusting rollers bunks on it and the boat will load off center just about everytime if I back the trailer in too deep.

With the trailer too deep in the water the back of the boat floats and doesn't allow the boat to settle into the bunks correctly when I pull out of the water.

Mine will usally work itself back into postion after a few bumps on the road but then you have to pull over and readjust the tiedown straps.

I have a 19' Rinker bowrider on a single axle EZLoader bunk trailer. I find that if the trailer is in the water too far, the boat never settles straight. It's always to one side or the other. I have found that if I don't back it in as far and winch it in a couple of feet, the boat guides itself on correctly every time.

I have a roller trailer and I also learned you don't want it real deep in the water.

I back it in until the water is almost at the top of the fenders. Then I crank the winch 2 or 3 times and pause until the boat does what it wants then repeat until it is most of the way up. Once it is going on good I steady crank it the rest of the way up.

When I steady cranked it up on the trailer the whole way it would load uneven.

My Baja I had was crooked unless I cranked it with the manual winch the last 4 or 5 feet. If I tried to float in on all of the way the boat would always be a little crooked. Most times I just left it that way unless it was real crooked. Maybe you should try putting the trailer in more and then less until you find a good level to load your boat. You may be putting the trailer in too far into the water so the trailer can't center the boat.

I have an 18' bowrider and find that if trailer is too deep in water, boat will not settle down as it should. (only took 1 time to figure out cuz boat definitely wasn't wanting to sit down properly). With MY trailer anyway, I back down 'till the side guide bunks are a couple inches out of the water, load boat on and power up until I'm resting on bow stop. Sits down perfectly everytime. I think no matter what type trailer and boat you have, if it's too deep then the boat will just settle down willy-nilly once you pull out of the water.

Find that certain depth so you can winch the last 2 or 3 feet with the stern not floating. Centre up even with the mudguards on your trailer or better still fit some guides. Keep tire pressures where they should be and post some photos so you can get the best advice available. A picture is worth a thousand words.
