boat motor question

i have a 1992 tracker pro 16 with a 1992 25hp evinrude tracker long shaft. im looking to upgrade to either a 1994 force 40hp, 1998 tracker force power series 40hp or a 2001 mercury 40hp. would it be worth upgrading to a 40 from a 25? or am i better off using a different pitch prop for the 25?

Force has been out of business since about 99 and Mercury is not doing any Force parts support except for that already in the system.
The Merc should be fine.
A prop change might cost less,yuck,yuck.
If you get us the info requested in "read this first" at the top of the page. We may be able to make a prop suggestion.
There is no doubt the 40 will help your performance It is a 60% improvement in power. Under ideal conditions a 25 is good for about 29/30. maybe not on your boat.A 40 probably good for 35.Hole shot should be easy,it will; fade less as you add weight.if you cruise at the 25's wot speed the 40 will be loafing.

the prop on my 25 is a 10x15. or am i better off making mods to the motor like a 35hp carb etc......

Great boat, isnt it rated for a 50? My buddy has a 2003 model with a 25 hp merc. He's puttin a 50 on it. Little things probably gonna skip across the lake like a flat rock. I cant wait.

No, changing carbs will only cause you problems now, and down the road.
It takes a lot more to increase power on a 2 stroke, than just adding more gas.
Timing, porting, intakes, exhausts, simply not worth the hassle, and the results won't be there.


You may already be overpropped, so increasing pitch will bog you down and lug the engine.
But reducing the pitch may help your holeshot, but decrease speed.

You will need a bigger motor if you want that boat to perform well.

There are lots of Mercs, Evinrudes, Johnsons, and Yamahas from the 80's and 90's that would do wonders for you.

nope mine is rated for a 40hp plus the inside of mine is different from the inside of your buddies

my local marine shop got a 96 or 98 yamaha 40 hp 2 stroke/2 cylinder in for 1600. controls included. they want to give me 500 for my 25hp so thats 1100 for the motor

Just went from a 25hp to a 40hp this season on my rig (16' deep and wide utility tinny). The difference in power and speed is tremendous. You'd never get anywhere near the same results with a different prop on the 25hp. If you've go the money I'd say go for it...

not hard, as long as you have everything you need, and understand where/how it all fits together.

How about you offer the dealer 1200, and they rig the motor for you.

well i still havent found a motor or noting for me to jump on yet. what is the difference between a 35hp and a 40hp?
