I just recently purchased my first boat ever, a '96 15'5" Cadormat Azura bowrider, with a 55HP Nissan motor. I have only had it upto 31mph(per speedo), I have pulled skiers, tubers, etc. but I think this boat should go faster, does the motor need tweaking? The motor klunks into fwd or reverse, I was told the idle was too high, so lower it but it still klunks, if I set it lower, it stalls because the idle is not high enough, maybe something other than idle problem? <br /><br />Has anybody ever heard of Cadormat?

sounds like your getting top performance out of the boat. never heard of that manufacture.

THANKS FOR YOU REPLY, DO YOU KNOW IF THERE IS SOME SORT OF GUIDE THAT SAYS WHAT HP RATING ON A CERTAIN BOAT WEIGHT/SIZE WILL GO HOW FAST. MY BOAT'S TAG SAYS IT CAN ONLY TAKE A 75 HP MOTOR, SO HOW FAST COULD IT GO?

boat speed is based on motor rpm and prop pitch prop pitch is how far the prop will travel through the water in one revolution assuming no "slippage" this is a # on the side or end of the prop hub something like 12x15 this means 12"diameter 15" pitch or travel your motor should run at about 5000-5500 rpm at full throttle you will use the pitch of the prop to keep your motor in this rpm range. if your motor runs to fast it can "blow up" if it doesnt run fast enough (motor rpm) you are causing undue stress on the powerhead(motor) say you have two people in the boat and what would be considered a "light load"you maybe able to run a 19" pitch prop and run at 5250 rpm and about 40 mph now you put six people, two dogs, four coolers, and a barrel of chicken in the boat and still want to pull two skiers (good luck) with a 19" prop you will run about 12mph and 2000 rpm (just a guess) well now you need say a 11" prop to get to 5000 rpm oh and tell your skiers to let you know when thier skis hit bottom as they will be knee deep.( an 11" prop will run abut 17 mph)i know that this is long but i hope i helped
