Re: Boat not getting on plane

Well, the first cam specs were shocking. The second set seems less concerning, but I have to digest and compare the specs a bit more. I didn't want to ignore your follow up post.

The intake needs to be used with Vortec heads, and seems some others have experience sluggish torque onset when jumping to that carb, and have trouble planing.

Here is just one example, and I'd say visiting this link is a must for you. Some report going back to an old carb with great results, so the carb might be the culprit:

By the way... you running the original exhaust?

Re: Boat not getting on plane

when I was posting in the motor section ACHRIS one of the gurus over there said it looked like a good cam for the motor.
Then I'm comfortable.

You need to go through the low WOT diagnostic list that Ziggy posted and then consider changes. Personally I would not change anything until you had gone through the list. Just messes up the process. If this does appear to be an engine problem, then you should start a new thread in the I/O section.

A coupler would have excess RPM and low power, not low RPM and low power. Check your tach too, but since it won't plane, I don't think it''s spinning. What RPM do you see when it gets stuck trying to plane? Before it planes.

Re: Boat not getting on plane

Installed Nauticus SX smart tabs last week and took the boat out sunday. It jumped up on plane quickly and easily. I don't know why the manufacturers don't install these at the factory if for nothing else no more low speed wander. WOT is 4500 rpm at 48mph (gps) going to change the prop to a 4 blade design, kind of thinking the laser II prop really isnt suited for a cuddy. Thanks for all of your help.
